You can't always wear your clipless shoes and some people don't even like them. I like platform pedals but when commuting by bicycle they aren't very efficient. This is where toe clips come in handy. They provide more efficiency in pedaling by allowing you pull on the up stroke and they keep your feet from slipping forward. They are also great for the winter if you're riding in hiking boots to keep your feet warm. You still get some of the benefits that clipless pedals provide without riding your toes into frostbite city.
I've had this pair of Zefal road cycling toe Clips for about 5 years now. Most strapless toe clips are in the $6 - $10 range. For the price I'll say they provide a massive return. These toe clips are strapless so there is no adjusting them. They are also a hard plastic material unlike the flexible toe clips with straps which over time become floppy and make it a bit difficult to get your feet into. With the strapless toe clips you simply put your feet on the pedals and push them forward.
