If you’re lost in the wilderness and don’t have a compass you can get direction easily. Here is a way you can get a fairly good sense of direction with about an hour of time and stick. This only works during the day with sunlight.



Put a stick in the ground and at the top point of the shadow make a mark in the ground. (See image below) Then simply wait about an hour and make another mark in the ground at the longest point of the shadow. Then draw a straight line connecting the two points and this will give you an east to west line. From there you can draw another line crossing the east to west line to get the north and south directions.
